Researchers found that patients with Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) who also have depression show T cell abnormalities similar to those seen in major depression, including fewer naive CD4+ T cells. These immune cell changes are now being targeted in a clinical trial using thymosin alpha 1, which may help address both the immune deficiency and depression in these patients.
