Scientists tested whether the GHRH agonist MR-409 could protect insulin-producing beta cells from endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a cellular condition that contributes to type 2 diabetes. While MR-409 did not prevent or reverse the ER stress itself, cells treated with the compound showed less oxidative damage and better survival even under stressful conditions. These results suggest GHRH agonists may help protect beta cells from the cellular damage that drives diabetes progression.
