Semax was tested for its effect on the colon during stress in rats subjected to physical restraint. Stressed animals developed inflammation and structural damage in the colon wall along with elevated stress hormones, while Semax administration reduced corticosterone levels and protected the colon from these changes. The findings suggest Semax has protective effects on gut health during stress, likely through a combination of central brain effects and direct action on receptors in the intestine.
