Dexamethasone had opposite effects on sermorelin-stimulated growth hormone release depending on when it was given: administered 3 hours before, it nearly tripled the growth hormone response, but given 12 hours before, it completely blocked it. This reveals that corticosteroids have a dual action, with an acute potentiating effect and a delayed suppressive effect on growth hormone-releasing hormone signaling.
