Scientists found that the GHRH receptor and its associated growth signals are highly active in pterygium, a common eye condition involving abnormal tissue growth on the surface of the eye. Treatment with the GHRH receptor blocker MIA-602 triggered dose-dependent cell death in pterygium cells by activating caspase-3, a key cell death enzyme. This suggests that GHRH receptor blockers could offer a new non-surgical treatment option for pterygium.
