This study explored how thymosin alpha-1 interacts directly with cell membranes, particularly those displaying phosphatidylserine on their surface, which occurs in many diseases and during cell death. The peptide appears to fold into a specific shape upon contacting negative membrane surfaces, then moves along the membrane to engage receptors and trigger signaling cascades, which may explain its broad range of biological effects.
