Researchers discovered that the GHRH receptor is present on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells and that blocking it with MIA-602 can significantly inhibit their growth. In mice with human AML tumors, treatment with MIA-602 drastically reduced tumor size, and the drug promoted cancer cell death by activating pro-death genes and blocking survival signals. The GHRH receptor was also found in patient AML samples, suggesting this could be a new treatment approach for this blood cancer.
