Two independent laboratories tested whether thymosin alpha-1 could correct the defective CFTR protein that causes cystic fibrosis and found no evidence that it works. While thymosin alpha-1 may still have value as an anti-inflammatory agent, the studies could not confirm its previously reported ability to fix CFTR function or activate alternative chloride channels in CF patient cells.
