Researchers engineered a specialized enzyme called thymoligase to efficiently join two peptide fragments together, enabling the production of thymosin alpha-1 in a more practical way than traditional chemical synthesis. This new chemo-enzymatic process achieved over 94% ligation yield and doubled the overall production yield to 55% at gram scale compared to existing industrial methods.
