This structural study explored how thymosin alpha-1 may exert its biological effects by interacting with phosphatidylserine -- a lipid normally hidden inside cells but exposed on the surface of damaged or dying cells. NMR experiments confirmed that the peptide inserts into negatively charged membrane regions containing phosphatidylserine, and direct interaction was demonstrated with leukemia cells undergoing apoptosis, providing insight into the peptide's mechanism of action.
