The cytokine MIC-1/GDF15, elevated in cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurological conditions common in the elderly, was found to have binding sites for geroprotective peptides including Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) in its gene promoter. These peptides may regulate MIC-1/GDF15 synthesis, potentially explaining part of their geroprotective effect.
