This study found that thymosin alpha-1 enhances the release of antiviral substances from CD8+ immune cells that can block both HIV-1 and HTLV-1 infection in the lab. The peptide also triggered a distinctive gene expression profile in immune cells from HIV-positive individuals, suggesting it could be a valuable addition to antiretroviral therapy.
