Newborn calves infused with triglycerides showed a significantly reduced growth hormone response to injected GRF compared to calves given saline. At the same time, triglyceride infusion raised blood levels of somatostatin, suggesting that elevated blood fats suppress GRF-stimulated growth hormone release by promoting somatostatin secretion. This finding helps explain how nutritional fat intake can influence the growth hormone axis in young animals.
