The synthetic peptide GHRP-6 was found to stimulate growth hormone release from rat pituitary cells through a receptor completely different from the one used by GRF, as demonstrated by the fact that a GRF antagonist did not block GHRP-6's effects. When GHRP-6 and GRF were combined, they produced a synergistic boost in both growth hormone release and intracellular signaling, far exceeding what either peptide achieved alone. This confirms that GHRP-6 and GRF operate through independent mechanisms that can powerfully complement each other.
