Two forms of growth hormone-releasing hormone, the shorter GHRH 1-29 and the longer native GHRH 1-40, were compared in 20 short children with normal spontaneous growth hormone secretion. Both peptides produced equivalent growth hormone responses, with mean peak levels of 89 and 94 mU/l respectively. The shorter GHRH 1-29 also caused small, brief increases in prolactin and gonadotropin hormones, confirming that the shorter peptide is equally effective as the full-length form for stimulating growth hormone release.
