Rats subjected to daily separation from their mothers during the first two weeks of life showed stunted growth, metabolic problems, and blunted stress-hormone responses that persisted for the first two months of life. Intranasal Semax given daily for two weeks after the isolation period improved body weight, corrected metabolic disruptions, and restored normal stress-hormone release. The study demonstrates that Semax treatment following early-life stress can significantly reverse its lasting negative effects.
