Researchers discovered that a GHRH-blocking compound activates an important energy-sensing enzyme called AMPK in lung cancer cells, which helps suppress cancer cell growth. The compound also inhibited other signaling proteins (Akt, mTOR) that cancer cells rely on for growth and survival, and these effects were reversed when GHRH itself was added. This is the first evidence that GHRH blockers can regulate the AMPK metabolic pathway, which is critical in many major cancers.
