Researchers demonstrated that induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells can differentiate into neurons with efficiency comparable to embryonic stem cells. Using a fluorescent marker driven by the tubulin alpha-1 promoter, they were able to sort and purify neurons to near-purity, which has important implications for neurodevelopmental and transplantation studies.
