A compound that blocks growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), called MZ-4-71, was injected into the brains of mice to test its effects on memory, mood, and anxiety. The compound improved memory, fully protected against memory damage caused by a fragment of the Alzheimer's-related beta-amyloid protein, and showed antidepressant and mild anxiety-reducing effects. These findings suggest that GHRH-blocking compounds could potentially help treat anxiety, depression, and cognitive decline in conditions like Alzheimer's disease.
