Researchers achieved efficient production of fully acetylated thymosin alpha-1 in bacteria by engineering a fusion protein system combined with a specialized acetylation enzyme. The process yielded 24.5 mg of pharmaceutical-grade peptide per liter of culture, providing a viable biotechnological alternative to chemical synthesis.
