Rats fed an energy-rich cafeteria diet showed reduced growth hormone responses to GRF, with the severity depending on both the duration of the diet and the degree of weight gain. After five months, only the most obese rats had significantly blunted responses, and their isolated pituitary cells also showed diminished GRF-stimulated growth hormone release. The results suggest that dietary obesity impairs growth hormone secretion through both pituitary-level changes and broader metabolic disruptions.
