Eight children with partial growth hormone deficiency received continuous subcutaneous infusions of GHRH for up to one year, and the five who completed the full year increased their growth rate from an average of 4.6 to 7.0 cm per year. Importantly, 24-hour growth hormone monitoring showed sustained enhancement of pulsatile GH secretion with no sign of desensitization over the treatment period. Growth rates returned to pre-treatment levels after stopping therapy, supporting the potential of a sustained-release GHRH preparation as a practical treatment for slowly growing children.
