Researchers tested compounds that block growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) as a treatment for enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in rats. All three GHRH-blocking compounds reduced prostate weight by 17-21% after six weeks of treatment, and analysis showed significant changes in over 80 genes related to growth factors and inflammation. The results suggest these GHRH blockers work directly through receptors in the prostate and could be developed as a new therapy for enlarged prostate.
