Glucocorticoids normally suppress the growth hormone response to GHRH in healthy adults, but this study found that pyridostigmine, a drug that reduces somatostatin signaling, completely blocked that suppressive effect. When pyridostigmine was given alongside cortisone and GHRH, growth hormone levels remained high. This suggests that glucocorticoids inhibit growth hormone secretion by boosting somatostatin activity, and that reducing somatostatin tone can override that inhibition.
