This study revealed a significant sex difference in how male and female rats respond to repeated injections of growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF) and to growth hormone feedback. Female rats responded consistently to many consecutive GRF injections, while males showed a cyclical pattern of responsiveness every three hours. When exogenous growth hormone was infused, it disrupted the male pattern but had no effect on the female response, suggesting that growth hormone feedback operates differently between sexes, likely through sex-specific somatostatin release patterns.
