This study found that prolonged insulin-induced low blood sugar sustains elevated growth hormone levels for hours, whereas continuous GHRH infusion causes GH to peak and then decline. The additive effect of combining insulin with GHRH suggests that hypoglycemia stimulates GH secretion through a mechanism partly independent of GHRH, possibly involving somatostatin suppression or other neuropeptides like galanin.
