Researchers found that the effect of removing the testes on growth hormone responsiveness to GHRH in rats depends critically on the animal's age. Early castration (day 23) actually enhanced the pituitary's response to GHRH a week later, while late castration (day 83) reduced it, suggesting that the relationship between gonadal function and GH regulation changes during development.
