Scientists used rainbow trout pituitary cell cultures to study how hypothalamic hormones control growth hormone release in fish. They found that two carp-derived GRF peptides stimulated GH release in a dose-dependent manner while somatostatin inhibited it, confirming that the same hypothalamic regulatory system controlling GH secretion in mammals also operates in lower vertebrates.
