Scientists silenced the gene for growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) in several human cancer cell lines, including breast, prostate, and lung cancers, and found that this significantly suppressed their proliferation. When they added back external GHRH, the cancer cells resumed growing, confirming that GHRH acts as a direct growth factor in these tumors and supporting the potential of targeting GHRH signaling in cancer therapy.
