Women with hyperthyroidism showed significantly blunted growth hormone responses to both clonidine and GHRH stimulation compared to healthy controls, with the degree of suppression being similar for both stimulants. This parallel impairment suggests that hyperthyroidism may increase somatostatin tone in the hypothalamus, which would equally dampen growth hormone release regardless of the stimulatory pathway used.
