Sermorelin, a 29-amino-acid synthetic version of growth hormone-releasing hormone, serves as both a diagnostic tool for growth hormone deficiency and a treatment for children with idiopathic GH deficiency. When used diagnostically as an intravenous injection, it produces fewer false positives than other tests, and when given as a daily bedtime injection, it can sustain increased growth velocity for at least 12 months in prepubertal children, though its effects on final adult height remain to be determined.
