Growth hormone secretagogues, including GHRH, a synthetic GH-releasing peptide, and ghrelin, all stimulated both food intake and growth hormone release in rainbow trout, showing these neuroendocrine pathways are conserved in fish. The treatments also produced complex changes in insulin-like growth factor binding proteins over 12 hours, indicating that growth hormone secretagogues have effects on the teleost endocrine system that extend well beyond the initial burst of growth hormone release.
