Thymosin alpha-1 was found to be overexpressed in human pancreatic cancer cell lines and clinical tumor specimens, and adding synthetic thymosin alpha-1 stimulated cancer cell proliferation through activation of growth-signaling pathways ERK1/2 and JNK. This unexpected finding suggests thymosin alpha-1 may play a role in promoting pancreatic cancer growth, contrasting with its beneficial immune-boosting effects in other contexts.
