This study demonstrated that Semax binds specifically to rat basal forebrain tissue and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) protein levels. This direct link between Semax binding and neurotrophin upregulation provides a key mechanism for its neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing effects.
