In a rat model of peritoneal sepsis, thymosin-alpha-1 treatment improved immune function by boosting helper T-cell levels, reduced harmful inflammation by lowering pro-inflammatory cytokines while raising anti-inflammatory IL-10, and slowed the decline of blood albumin levels. The treated animals also had lower seven-day mortality, suggesting the peptide can improve outcomes in severe infections.
