Researchers studied the TCR alpha enhancer, which controls T-cell receptor gene rearrangement during immune cell development. They found that a 275-base-pair region containing binding sites both inside and outside the core enhancer is needed for proper developmental timing, with cooperative assembly of a protein complex across these sites ensuring the enhancer activates only at the correct stage of T-cell maturation.
