A study in healthy elderly men showed that twice-daily injections of GHRH for 14 days could restore their growth hormone and IGF-I levels to match those of young men. The higher dose (1 mg) produced significant increases in 24-hour GH secretion and IGF-I without adverse effects on blood sugar, blood pressure, or other health markers. These results suggest that the age-related decline in growth hormone is largely due to reduced hypothalamic GHRH signaling and could potentially be reversed with GHRH therapy.
