Scientists discovered that blocking the action of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) in breast cancer cells both slowed their growth and triggered cell death. The GHRH antagonist reduced cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner while simultaneously increasing programmed cell death (apoptosis). These findings suggest that GHRH acts as a growth-promoting signal in certain breast cancers and that blocking it could be a potential treatment strategy.
