Transdermal estrogen therapy in menopausal women progressively enhanced the growth hormone response to GHRH stimulation over six months of treatment, though it did not change the baseline pulsatile GH release pattern. The magnitude of GH response to GHRH increased proportionally with treatment duration, suggesting that estrogen deficiency contributes to reduced GHRH sensitivity during menopause. These findings indicate that estrogen replacement may help restore the growth hormone axis in menopausal women.
