Nightly GHRH injections for 6 months significantly increased growth rates in both children with idiopathic short stature and those with growth hormone neurosecretory dysfunction, with similar responses in both groups. However, the growth-promoting effect largely did not persist after treatment was discontinued, contrary to some earlier reports. The study suggests that the distinction between GH sufficiency and neurosecretory dysfunction may have limited practical significance for predicting response to GHRH therapy.
