Epithalamin increased cyclic GMP levels in the pineal gland of rats, and this effect persisted even when adrenergic receptors were blocked, indicating that epithalamin acts through non-adrenergic pathways. The study suggests that non-adrenergic innervation and humoral mechanisms play a role in pineal gland activation under stress conditions.
