Immunizing female pigs against growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF) significantly reduced growth hormone, IGF-I levels, and body weight, but did not delay the onset of puberty. However, when immunization was started very early at 35 days of age rather than 92 days, it reduced ovulation rates at puberty, indicating that the growth hormone axis during early development influences later reproductive capacity. These results demonstrate that early disruption of the growth hormone system can have lasting effects on reproductive development.
